Wednesfield Technology Primary Wolverhampton, UK

The school facility is for Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust and is located on the site of the disused Edward the Elder Primary and Nursery School, Lichfield Road, Wednesfield.
The existing buildings comprised a single storey main school block and a separate freestanding building known as the ‘Lodge’ located adjacent to the western boundary. Constructed in 1910, they have been out of use for circa 14 years and the main school block was demolished as part of the proposed development, whilst the Lodge was externally refurbished.

The purpose of this was to develop a building and entire school site that enhances the local environment and responds to the local surroundings and community. It presents an identifiable image of a new, aspirational, future-thinking educational establishment that serves to embed the school profile as part of the community it serves.

Wednesfield Technology Primary School welcomed its first students in September 2025.
As part of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, the new primary school has been designed and delivered as a Passivhaus Certified building. The design process was informed by the desire for a new, NZC (Net Zero Carbon) building, which provides a high quality, inspirational teaching environment for teachers, pupils, and staff.

“It has been an incredible project to be a part of to develop a new state-of-the-art Passivhaus school providing quality facilities to the children of the area. Through continual collaboration amongst the design and construction teams, we were able to develop a robust range of details exceeding the stringent requirements of Passivhaus resulting in a highly energy efficient school and model for future schemes.”
