Myton School Sixth Form Warwick, UK
Myton School is a 1700 pupil, coeducational secondary school and sixth form in Warwickshire.
Corstorphine & Wright have been appointed by the school to reconfigure their existing site to accommodate the reformatting of playing fields and create a new dedicated sixth form teaching building and relocated parking amenities.
The new sixth-form building will accomodate the existing cohort of 320 students, which is anticipated to increase to 450 in the next several academic years. This will alleviate resource requirements on the existing school buildings, as well as provide additional school places for a growing community in the immediate context.
The new building design is based on a simple and efficient footprint, whilst being reflective of the existing school is terms of location, mass, proportion and materials. Positioned running parallel to the main school frontage to Myton Road, the building reinforces the schools presence by creating a new visual cue in the street vista. Set back from the frontage to accommodate parking and potential cycle storage, the residential streetline is respected.
The proposal provides 12no. general classrooms, which, along with breakout spaces for silent/group studying, double up as form rooms for the 450 students.
Administration space including the head of sixth-forms office at the entrance ensures secure access for students and staff.
