Frankum Mews London, UK
Winner of “Best Housing Scheme (fewer than 500 homes)” in the 2020 Planning Awards.
The scheme, for developer Frankum Mews, aims to rejuvenate a collection of warehouses between Crawley Road and Downhills Way. It provides a contemporary mews terrace of 10 houses and 19 apartments in 2 separate blocks framing a new pedestrian and cycle link in Wood Green.
The scheme opens up access through the site, and the new green link is bound by two linear blocks of accommodation. This creates a pedestrian-focused mews street, which encourages people to utilise the route.
A second public space – in the form of a small play area – is created to the eastern end of the site.
The northern accommodation block zig-zags back in the centre of the site to create a new public space and address the building line of the existing adjacent terraced housing.
The accommodation is dispersed across 2 separate apartment blocks and a linear run of terraced houses. The apartments have been designed with multi-aspect views and full height windows to maximise light, and include access to a private balcony or terrace.
The scheme was granted planning permission with unanimous consent at planning committee in November 2019.
