Central Milton Keynes Masterplan Framework & Growth Study Milton Keynes, UK

Corstorphine & Wright have been commissioned by Milton Keynes City Council (MKCC) to set out a strategy for growth in Central Milton Keynes, concluding in the preparation of an Urban Design Framework and a Growth Opportunity Study.
The project explores a range of strategies relating to land use, urban form, green infrastructure, public transport and active travel, while respecting its modernist heritage and its iconic status as the UK’s most successful planned new town.

It addresses various challenges, including addressing the climate emergency, creating healthy, inclusive environments, enabling the ongoing success of the local economy and making sure the city centre has all of the facilities and opportunities that one expects a successful city should have.
The emerging masterplan framework has been informed by the review of placemaking principles already undertaken by the Council, and through a series of design workshops, from which a range of growth scenarios – including tall buildings – has been tested.

The masterplan forms a key plank of MKCC’s draft New City Plan Regulation 18 Consultation, and will guide its population growth to 2050.
