The first scheme situated on the site of the Covent Garden car park in Leamington will create a new headquarters for Warwick District Council, a 617-space multi-storey car park, and 44 residential apartments. Â The Covent Garden car park is suffering from alkali-silica reaction meaning it is not cost-effective to be repaired. It will therefore be demolished and the new development which includes the district council’s new offices will provide a new modern, larger and more user-friendly car park replacing the current multi-storey. Our plans not only increase the number of car parking spaces but also include more than 80 charge points for electric vehicles, 27 dedicated disabled spaces, 20 dedicated parent and child spaces and secure parking for 20 motorcycles and 30 cycles.
The new headquarters will allow the Council to move its workforce into the heart of Leamington town centre, to a smaller, modern and more energy efficient building saving circa £300,000 per year in running costs which can be used to support other public services.
The relocation of the Council will be financed by the re-development of its present site at Riverside House in Milverton Hill, which will have up to 170 new homes built on it. Planning for the development was also approved at Warwick District Council’s planning committee.
