Southampton’s future takes shape: Corstorphine & Wright’s 384-unit housing scheme gets green light

Plans for a ground-breaking residential development on the site of a former gasworks near St Mary’s Stadium have received approval from Southampton City Council.

The proposed development, spearheaded by Hawkstone Properties Ltd, envisions the transformation
of the Britannia Road site into a vibrant community hub. Featuring 384 build-to-rent flats distributed
across four blocks ranging from eight to 17 storeys high, the project aims to redefine modern living in
the heart of Southampton.

Our vision for the project is to contribute to the sustainability and prosperity of this part of Southampton adjacent to St Mary’s Stadium.”

The proposal has garnered significant anticipation, with the design echoing the site’s industrial heritage in both architectural and landscape elements. The distinctive scheme, which will form the Northern Gateway to the Itchen Riverside and City, has been designed to echo its industrial past.

The development is poised to inject new life into the area, promising not only high-quality residential units but also enhanced public spaces and amenities. Construction is also continuing on the Corstorphine & Wright designed Bargate Quarter in Southampton.
