Planning has been submitted for the development of a Metsä Tissue Ltd state-of-the-art tissue paper mill in Goole, UK designed by Corstorphine & Wright.
Subject to approval, the development will occupy a 211 acre site on the northern part of the Humber Freeport in Goole, and will unfold in four distinct phases, with construction starting in 2026 and initial operations anticipated by 2028. The design includes crucial infrastructure such as storage facilities, a water treatment plant, and an automated warehouse. Subsequent phases will enhance production capacity, significantly impacting the UK’s tissue paper market by reducing import reliance by 30%.
Metsä Tissue aims to produce 240,000 tonnes of tissue paper annually. This initiative is projected to generate over 400 direct jobs and numerous indirect opportunities, bolstering the local economy while aligning with the Humber Freeport’s objectives.
The project has garnered endorsements from prominent figures, including former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, highlighting its regional significance.
This landmark development by Metsä Tissue not only represents a significant investment in the UK’s industrial landscape but also sets a benchmark in sustainable manufacturing practices.
