Generation 4 Change (G4C) is the young professional voice of the UK-built environment industry and a driving force for change. Corstorphine & Wright is thrilled that one of our talented Architects, Matthew Usher, has been shortlisted for the Northeast Future Leader Award – celebrating the younger generation of construction and showcasing the hard work and leadership of these up-and-coming professionals.
Having qualified in 2020 and working with Corstorphine & Wright since 2018, Matt has proven himself to be a passionate Architect and a valuable member of our team both within the North East region and nationally.
Matt has experience across a variety of sectors and is currently working on a several healthcare schemes, working collaboratively with other consultants, contractors, and clients to create spaces with empathy for patients. This ethos is clearly demonstrated in the Rob Burrow Centre for MND in Leeds for which Matt is a key part of the design team.
Matt has trained as one of Corstorphine & Wright’s Mental Health First Aiders, offering support to colleagues across the Practice and is a driving force within the Sustainability Champion Network. He has a clear focus on embedding sustainable design and care within his schemes, becoming an accredited Passive House Designer to help improve building quality on projects and has presented his learnings back to colleagues to support others in development.
As a mentor and leader within the Newcastle Studio since it opened in 2022, Matt encourages and supports his colleagues who are studying and following in his footsteps, offering advice and guidance on how to navigate a career in architecture. He is active across internal networks and regularly visits schools and universities to inspire the next generation of Built Environment professionals.
