Started in 2015, and having been through a number of site options and iterations, we have recently seen completion of this new £3m Headquarters and Hangar Facility for the Great North Air Ambulance service adjacent to Teesside Airport.
Our brief was to identify a way of locating most of the charity’s key operations onto one site, enabling them to reduce operational overheads and improve overall efficiency. The project involved the complete renovation of the former Elementis Chromium site at Urlay Nook, near Eaglescliffe. The existing accommodation in the building underwent a radical redesign to provide a permanent home for the GNAA doctors, pilots, paramedics, administrators, fundraisers and the PR and marketing team. In addition, we were asked to design and deliver a new a 40m-square hangar capable of housing three helicopters, a maintenance and mechanica areal along with medical equipment stores. The new building will also house a Medical Centre of Excellence which will enable the GNAA to build upon the outstanding research it has already completed on clinical innovations.
The primary team led by Simon Crowe throughout the project proved to be extremely receptive to all our requirements in addition to advising and improving on our initial plans, Guiding us through the tender process to appoint the main contractor, the team could not have been more helpful.
