The Carmarthenshire Custody and Llanelli Police Station has been awarded the ‘Project or Refurbishment Award’ for their new police estate, designed by Corstorphine & Wright, at the National Police Estates Group Awards. This facility is a new-build custody suite on behalf of Dyfed-Powys Police, to consolidate and replace outdated smaller suites in the wider Dyfed area.

The National Police Estates Group (NPEG) Awards is an annual event that recognises the exceptional work of police forces across the U.K. in developing police estates that are relevant, cost-effective, and visually aesthetic.

The facility, which opened in May, earned a BREEAM Excellence rating for its sustainable features, including a photovoltaic solar power system to reduce the building’s carbon footprint, a rainwater harvesting system, and electric vehicle charging stations.

The 4,000m² suite comprises 18 cells, with associated ancillary/support rooms, and approximately 1,350m² office space. The suite puts both staff and detainee welfare, dignity and safety at the forefront of the design; offering flexible working methods whilst maintaining significant levels of security for operational and ‘office based’ staff.

The suite also incorporates CSI facilities, and ABE-style areas, primarily to offer a level of resilience to existing facilities in the Police’s wider estate.

We are so proud that this scheme has been recognised by the judges of this prestigious award. Congratulations to the Corstorphine & Wright team, as well as our talented colleagues that have contributed to this scheme’s success.

“I am pleased that the new Policing base in Dafen, Llanelli has been honoured with this award. It is an energy efficient and sustainable construction and the custody suite is a state of the art facility which will significantly raise the standard of care being provided to detainees at the suite.”

– Chief Constable Richard Lewis, Dyfed-Powys Police
