Canon Green Campus Manchester, UK
Canon Green Campus development in Salford, the largest affordable housing development in the area.
Our ambitious proposals transformed the appearance and living facilities at Canon Green Campus.
Two existing 1960’s social housing blocks, Canon Green Court – an eight-storey residential building with 110 units and Westminster House – a three-storey apartment block consisting of 33 units have been completely refurbished.
Artifex – A new build eleven storey building with 108 affordable units.
It delivers essential improvement work that residents have been calling for, as well as provide more desperately needed homes for local people.
The refurbishment included new kitchens, bathrooms, heating systems, sprinkler systems and exterior re-facing and insulation.
For the new build, following extensive consultation with existing residents, we developed a design for a high quality eleven-storey residential building, consisting of a commercial ground floor and 108 residential units above.
Our challenge from Salix Homes was to achieve a balance of good design, sustainability and quality, whilst being respectful to the development cost and buildability. To achieve this, we designed a simple building shape with a high-quality terracotta rainscreen façade , combined photo voltaic on the roof and shared high-quality placemaking landscape.
The scheme is 100% affordable to support the City’s housing strategy and funded by Homes England.
Both refurbishments and the new build were designed under the Early Adopters Scheme for two of the original signatories, Salix Homes and Willmott Dixon – delivering on the Building for a Safer Future Charter.
