Buckland Granaries Lymington, UK
Buckland Granaries in Lymington, Hampshire was an exciting opportunity to design and deliver twelve contemporary dwellings in the heart of the New Forest.
Originally an agricultural farmyard the existing site consisted of barns of various age, scale and construction. Alongside this variety in appearance, they focused on a central courtyard which was key to the openness and character of the site. The new proposal is arranged around the principles of form that was present in the existing barns and sheds but careful repositioning and control over the new scale and mass has meant that the original character of the courtyard remains and becomes a focal point for the development.
Careful material treatment was required throughout the built form and the landscaping to provide a contemporary approach that references the local vernacular the end result is a stunning development that has a sense of place and identity while not detracting from its beautiful rural setting.
With construction completed in 2020, each unit was sold instantly upon entering the market, with the new owners having a rare opportunity to own a bespoke home in the beautiful market town of Lymington, with the interiors being designed and specified to an extremely high standard by Jigsaw Interior Architecture.
The scheme was shortlisted for the Solent Quality Place Award in 2022.
