We are excited to share that Corstorphine & Wright is a finalist for ‘Project of the Year’ in Workplace Interiors (5,000–15,000 sqft) at the Mix North Awards 2024, with our Unusual Rigging HQ project.
Unusual HQ is a pioneering new build office project for a rigging company in Bugbrooke, Northamptonshire.
The building is an exemplar test-bed project for circular economy principles and low-carbon design. At its core is the circular economy, an approach to building that departs from the linear economy of take, make, use, and dispose, and instead looks to create a building that is constructed from sustainable materials and can be dismantled and reused at the end of its life.
Circular economy principles guided the interior fit-out, focusing on materials with low embodied carbon and high reuse potential. Cradle to Cradle certified products and reversible fixing methods were used to minimise waste, ensuring longevity and sustainability.
The interior design enhances energy efficiency, with the building fabric specified to Passive House standards while minimising embodied carbon. The layout incorporates open-plan offices, private meeting rooms, communal breakout areas, and a canteen, ensuring a balanced blend of collaborative and private spaces. The flexible design allows the office to adapt as the company evolves, supporting changing work dynamics and employee needs.
Biophilic design principles—integrating natural elements such as planting and organic forms—are woven throughout the building, promoting the physical and mental well-being of its users by creating a calming, nature-inspired environment. This thoughtful approach to design not only improves productivity but also fosters a healthier and more enjoyable workplace.
